The reason this backfired is partway through the fight Mattias casts Infernal Flame which prevented my team from using any magic. I went heavy magic with Ophilia (whose chapter it was), Cyrus, Primrose, and then Olberic as my only source of physical damage. My party composition ended up not being the best for this either.
For the first time I had to dip into some items I hadn’t used yet. This fight was one of the most difficult and interesting in the game. This one encapsulates the determination and emotion that fill most of these endgame bosses.

Hired Help is an ability I had neglected and then I found out the cheapest option includes a party-wide defense buff which was great. Kind of reminds me of Accelerate from Dragon Quest, another skill I value for being able to set when bosses act.īeyond that, Shackle Foe to debuff attack got added use, even in some non-boss fights. After that, you still get at least a round where you know the boss, who probably has at least two actions, won’t get their actions midround or in a spot where you’re not prepared for it.

But follow that up with the Trap and you practically get two full rounds without interruption. When enemies recover from Break they always get first action in the next round, regardless of Leghold Trap. Chief among them was Leghold Trap, a Hunter skill which makes the target act last in the round for two rounds. But as I went into the Chapter 4’s I found some skills I had neglected. I held about the same job composition as I had had going back to Chapter 2.
